PRACTICE HIGHLIGHTS:
Jay Meunier has been practicing in both official languages since his call to the Bar in 1995. He has dedicated over twenty-five years to helping car accident victims and families who have suffered the loss a loved one due to the fault of another.
Jay is passionate about the law and each client’s case drives his determination to achieve the best outcome possible for those who seek his legal assistance. He is a strong proponent of advocating for his clients and providing mentorship to his Team and has engraved his vision of upholding the rights of his clients in his service to clients onto the firm. On September 30, 2020, Jay along with David Carrier and their support staff formed a new law firm, namely, MEUNIER CARRIER LAWYERS.
Jay is the owner of the firm and has been practising personal injury in Ontario since 1995. Jay’s mission for the firm entails advocacy, teamwork, collaboration, continuing legal education, keeping up with technology and mentorship which all form part of the strength and environment at Meunier Carrier Lawyers.
Jay’s cases involve motor vehicle accidents, motorcycle, ATV and snowmobile crashes, wrongful death cases, personal injury matters, insurance disputes, disability matters, life insurance disputes, contractual disputes, commercial litigation, civil fraud matters, employment related matters, Estate litigation, and family law.
Jay provides personal injury (plaintiff and defence) and other litigation services throughout Ontario. Jay has a particular interest in working with clients who suffered brain trauma, spinal cord injuries and amputations and through the years has acquired experience working on these types of matters.
Jay’s injury cases include representing accident victims and their families in collisions and in wrongful death cases involving the loss of a spouse, child, sibling, grandchild, parent and or grandparent.
Jay’s matters also comprise of slips/trips and falls, dog bites, and disability and life insurance disputes.
Jay has had success in all areas of personal injury including complex serious cases such as brain injury and paraplegia, amputations, fractures, other catastrophic injuries, whiplash, chronic pain issues & the wrongful death of a family member.
Jay acts for defendants as well and has previously represented an insurance company in various litigation cases all over Ontario. He has represented victims of various forms of abuse suffered at residential schools.
Jay has represented clients in both official languages before the Ontario Court of Justice, Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court of Ontario, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, the Federal Court, the Licence Appeal Tribunal, the Social Security Tribunal of Canada and the Child and Family Services Review Board.
Jay served on Council for the Ontario Bar Association and sat on its Board of Directors from September 2017 until September 2019.
Since 2001, Jay has been a panel agent for the Office of the Children’s Lawyer (OCL) in connection with representing children in family law disputes, child protection matters, and adoption cases. Since 2018 Jay has also acted for the OCL on behalf of children pertaining to Voluntary Youth Service Agreements (VYSA).
From September 2009 until September 2019, Jay served as a Board Member and Adjudicator with the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board.
Since March 2015 Jay has been sitting as a Deputy Judge in Small Claims Court in the District of Cochrane and Sudbury.
From February 2017 until February 2020, Jay served as an Adjudicator with the Civil Remedies for Illicit Activities Office.
Jay has been a guest speaker across Ontario where he has been actively involved in speaking at high schools, colleges, workplaces, public events and continuing legal education programs. In addition, Jay co-teaches a law course along with David Carrier at Northern College. For many years, Jay led and facilitated continuing legal education programs for the Sudbury Colloquium in both the Civil Litigation program and Family Law program. Jay has also been a past speaker in the Advocacy and Family sections at the Sudbury Colloquium.
Continuing Legal Education is a priority at Meunier Carrier Lawyers, which ensures that the lawyers and staff partake in continuing legal education programs throughout the year and are provided with ongoing in-house training. Keeping current is a positive tool that benefits clients and is an essential component of the firm’s commitment to providing legal services competently and ethically.
Jay has been attending the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association Spring and Fall educational conferences since 1998 and since 2007, The Advocates’ Society Trick of the Trade conference which addresses updates on tort law, litigation and current challenges for both plaintiff and defence lawyers.

INTERESTS:
Jay’s interests include cycling, running, reading, attending Raptors games and NHL games and travelling around the world. Jay has travelled to over 60 countries some of which have included Maldives, St. Barts, Hong Kong, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Morocco, Kenya, Tanzania, Dominican Republic, St. Maarten, Jamaica, Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Panama, Argentina, Uruguay, Cambodia, Japan, Vietnam, United Arab Emirates, Egypt and most of Europe and one of his favourite places is Ravello Italy where he has had the good fortune of spending part of his summers for well over a decade.
