Kiya Pilon
Law Clerk
Kiya joined the team as a full-time Law Clerk on May 1st, 2023.
By way of background, Kiya was born and raised in Timmins, Ontario.
Kiya attended O’Gorman High School and completed her Ontario Secondary School Diploma with honours.
Throughout her teenage years, Kiya worked as a logistics and procurement assistant for a global mining tech company, where she gained experience with respect to administrative duties and customer service.
Kiya graduated from the Law Clerk program at Canadore College in 2023, where she obtained her Law Clerk diploma with high honours.
Prior to joining the team, Kiya completed a placement with a local firm where she primarily worked on Family Law files.
Kiya is the team’s rising star and has been the lead law clerk on many complex civil and estate litigation files.
Some of Kiya’s tasks and strengths include managing and organizing client files, clerical duties, conducting client meetings, drafting pleadings, drafting correspondence, drafting executive file summaries, preparing files for examination for discovery, overseeing pre-trial and trial deadlines, dealing and communicating with clients, counsel, other law firm staff and court staff. Kiya attends with the lawyers at examinations for discovery and oversees the compliance of all undertakings under the supervision of the lawyer assigned to the case. Kiya also assists the firm’s bookkeeper from time to time.
Kiya has mastered the Leap Legal Software and has been instrumental in mentoring other staff in connection with training and supporting others on the cloud-based software.
Kiya possesses strong writing skills and is a pleasant, dedicated, hard-working and compassionate Law Clerk who goes the extra mile for the firm and its clients.
Kiya is a law clerk member of the Ontario Trial Lawyers Association and partakes with the firm’s lawyers and other team members at the Ontario Trial Lawyers Associations Conferences in Toronto. In addition, Kiya participates in the firm’s retreat in places like Punta Cana, Toronto and the local Dante Club. She plays active role at training sessions and huddles throughout the year. Kiya has a special interest in facilitating updates to the staff in new important matters to be addressed in reporting letters and concerning new and current trends in the law.
