Gavin Martel

Gavin Martel joined Team Meunier Carrier as a co-op student in 2019 and was subsequently hired after his placement to work as a legal assistant.

He was born and raised in Iroquois Falls and played competitive ice hockey in the region over the years.

Gavin is a graduate of O’Gorman High School where he obtained his Ontario Secondary School Diploma in June 2020.  Gavin is attending Carleton University and will be entering his 2nd year of studies in the Fall of 2021 where he is pursuing an undergraduate degree in law.  Gavin’s goal is to attend law school after having obtained his Bachelor’s degree.

Gavin works closely with the lawyers and clients on the accident benefits and tort cases.  He further assists the team with new client intakes and attends client meetings with the lawyers. Under the supervision of the lawyers overseeing a file, Gavin also interacts with clients on a daily basis.  He attends in-home assessments with clients and observes court matters and cases before the Licence Appeal Tribunal.

Gavin has acquired experience in the area of accident benefits and tort matters through the mentorship and guidance of Jay Meunier and David Carrier.  Gavin also serves as part of the support system for clients with serious and catastrophic injuries and serves as the liaison between the insurance company adjusters and the clients in assisting the lawyers with following through with client needs.

Gavin coordinates the almost daily huddles and participates in the firm’s legal education seminars.  Gavin attended the following educational programs at the 2020 Sudbury Colloquium Civil Litigation held via zoom on October 22nd and 23rd, 2020:  Advocacy; Civil Litigation and the Young Lawyers Division.

Gavin’s interests include ice hockey, where he spent three years playing with the Timmins Majors. He served as team Captain for the Timmins Majors AAA Midgets during the 2019-2020 season.   In his spare time, Gavin enjoys working out, reading, and spending time outdoors. In addition, Gavin’s interests in law includes learning and reading about accident benefits, personal injury law and insurance law.   Gavin continues to play ice hockey in the local Men’s League and brings his leadership, teamwork and advocacy skills acquired playing sports to meet the needs of our clients.
